PROJECT AIR

PROJECT AIR

This year, air pollution in Mongolia exceeded 133 times the international safe limit set by the World Health Organisation.

Pneumonia is now the second leading cause of death for children under five years old. Children living in unpowered slums of Ulaanbaatar have 40 per cent lower lung function than children living in a rural area. More information found here.

While reducing air pollution levels is the only long term sustainable solution to protecting children’s health, our idea allows infants to avoid exposure to air pollution.

The Project Air crib allows children to sleep in clean air. This is crucial as children under five sleep two third of their lives.

Since the slums in Mongolia are unpowered, this idea needs to operate without power. Using a manual pump, dirty air is draw from the crib, clean air is then pulled in through the filtration fabric walls and roof. Once the space is filed with clean air, the crib can be felt alone sine the fabric is breathable allowing general air flow.

We presented this idea to UNICEF Mongolia over Skype, but have since been ghosted. However, we’re still hell-bent on seeing this invention made so if anyone knows a potential partner, our email is below!
